what happens when you combine business know-how with saving skills?

More than 10 million. That’s the number of Savings Group members worldwide. For 25 years, in 70 countries, the groups have been lauded for banking the unbanked, boosting women’s economic empowerment and strengthening social cohesion.

Now, according to new independent research, another achievement can be added to the list. When the NGOs Hand in Hand and CARE teamed up to teach business skills to 130,000 Savings Group members in Rwanda, thousands of jobs were created – and incomes were boosted by 75 percent.

This data visualization illustrates the impact of introducing business training to all of sub-Saharan Africa’s Savings Groups, using the real number of group members in each country.
